Assignment: Draw the Rib Cage

Construct a Robo Skelly rib cage and the pelvis using the bucket method. Try to be as accurate as you can with them. Don’t just draw a generic rib cage shape in there. Look for clues from landmarks and muscle attachments that will tell you exactly where the rib cage is.

Here are some of my work. I found #3,5,8 are particularly hard to draw as the land marks are hidden and the poses are quite dynamic. Please give any advice if there's somewhere weird. Thank you.

The breast is pulled upward so I identify the 5th and 10th ribs to place the rib cage. Sugeestions are welcomed.

Good guess! I think you are right :D Not sure if I would worry too much about those specific ribs, at least I personally wouldn't. I think you can improve the shape of the ribcage. It looks flat. Pay attention to the connection between the neck (cylinder) and how it connects with the ribcage. I think that should help with the 3d effect. Complicated pose, good work!

ı think it doesnt extremely matter what bones they exactly are since theyre not LANDMARKS. SIMPLIFYING and thinkin more practically will improve youre drawing more

Hello, here are my attempts, I tried to keep the proportion right and find the right perspective at the same time, very hard. And one of each took me so mush time to draw. It's really hard to keep the lines clean, I redrew so many times. I would appreciate some feedback. Thank you.

Here's my ribcage assignment. I think I draw some of them too big. Any feedbacks will be greatly appreciated.

Here is my bunch of drawings for this lesson, I've used both skelly and assignment photos for this lesson. I'm using landmarks as a guidelines for anges of the torso bones, but still not always sure if I defined the position right!

Hey Eveline, For the most part you did pretty well. In some of the poses I noticed that you are stiffening up the poses a bit by not pushing the ribcage enough. Also, make sure you understand that the pelvis usually points down away from the ribcage. This causes a counter balance to the body. I did some quick sketches to show you what I'm talking about, I hope it helps :)

Posting my assignments helps me stay accountable to myself. I know I dont understand squished cylinders in perspective yet, but I'm going to keep going. If I need to revisit things later, that's fine. I feel like I can envision the structure much better than I could before I started. But I think making these from imagination would still be difficult.

this assignment was super difficult! (c" ತ,_ತ) the drawings in black are the first couple i tried then reattempted. I struggled getting the proportion and distance between the pelvis and ribcage...as well as perspective but perspective always kills me (;´Д`A these aint perfect but i dont want to dwell too long, ill keep practicing my weaknesses while moving on with the course! Perspective becomes easier with the robo-bean. Maybe you could make some ghost lines, creating the basic bean. Then, build up that. I think I'll try it as well. Good luck.

Rib cage. Really difficult! I feel like i had a lot of mistakes adding up in each one but I tried my best :) had trouble seeing where the skeleton actually was in the model, and alao with the proportions

This was the most difficult task so far, ufff, how difficult. I did my best. I know they have mistakes, write down my observations on some drawings. Now I go to the next lesson!

I did what I could, I think that the perspective of the pelvis is not like that, and I do the best I can with the management of the digital program but I don't like how it turns out. It is the first task, I will upload the rest all together

The one thing I noticed about your drawing is that the torso and pelvis are too straight up and down. I did a quick sketch to show you what you have to think about when showing the relationship between the ribcage and the pelvis. I hope it helps :)

Tried to gleam a better understanding of the overall egg shape (2/3=widest). Will need to investigate the plane changes and the connection between the thoracic arch and back arch caused by the 12 rib. Will do these lessons a bit more rapidly now in order to do 1 lap of anatomy faster.

Hi everyone! These are my assignments for this lesson . I've had some problems with drawing the bucket in some poses so i opted for the cube which was way simpler . There are some drawings that i'm not satisfied with like the sixth and the ninth . Anyway, any feedbacks are greatly appreciated .
